The Fairlady 240Z, also known as the export model name “Datsun 240Z”, participated in famous “Rallye Monte-Carlo” mainly on snowy and icy roads. In the 41st Rallye Monte-Carlo, the 240Z finished third, which surprised rally concerned people all over the world. The reason is that 240Z adopted the FR (front engine / rear wheel drive) system with the engine mounted in front. The FR system was thought to be disadvantageous on snow and ice, but the result betrayed the prediction. As a result, more and more drivers began driving Z-car at domestic rallies.

Full Description

The 1972 Datsun 240Z, especially in its iconic blue finish, stands as one of the most beloved and influential sports cars of the 1970s. More than just a beautiful car, it was a groundbreaking vehicle that reshaped global perceptions of Japanese engineering and design. At a time when European marques like Porsche and Jaguar dominated the sports car market, the 240Z arrived with a fresh, modern design, excellent performance, and a price tag that made it accessible to a much wider audience.
Its sleek fastback profile, long hood, and short rear deck gave it a classic GT silhouette that rivaled far more expensive vehicles. The inline-six engine delivered a surprisingly powerful and smooth driving experience, while the independent suspension and precise steering offered handling dynamics that impressed both enthusiasts and critics alike.
What truly set the 240Z apart, however, was its combination of reliability, style, and affordability. For the first time, drivers could enjoy a sports car that looked exotic, felt refined, and didn’t require constant maintenance or a wealthy budget. The 240Z became a symbol of smart performance and everyday drivability—a car that could turn heads on the weekend and serve as a daily driver on weekdays.
In its vibrant blue color, the 240Z became even more distinctive, capturing the spirit of the era and elevating the car’s visual appeal. Today, these models are cherished by collectors for their historical importance, timeless design, and the nostalgic emotion they evoke. The 1972 Datsun 240Z is more than a car—it’s a milestone in automotive history and a lasting icon of the golden age of driving.
